How we verify

Dialysis Ratings is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

Sources

• CMS Dialysis Facility Listing by Facility — Every Medicare-certified dialysis facility: star rating, chain, stations, shifts, modalities offered, and standardized outcome measures. Published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for Dialysis Facility Care Compare.

We load the full CMS Dialysis Facility Listing and publish every Medicare-certified center in it, with CMS's star rating, stations, services (in-center hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, home hemodialysis training), whether a shift starts at 5 pm or later, chain and ownership.

Outcome measures — survival, hospital admissions and readmissions, transfusions, bloodstream infections, emergency visits, transplant waitlisting and fistula use — are shown as CMS categorises them: better than expected, as expected, or worse than expected, after CMS adjusts for patient characteristics. Measures with too few patients are not reported by CMS and we leave them out. Percentages (dialysis adequacy, long-term catheter use, high calcium, waitlisting) are CMS's figures.

We do not adjust CMS's numbers or create our own ratings. Order within a city: highest CMS star rating first, then centers with an evening shift, then alphabetical. Featured centers appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.

What a badge means

Certified: the center holds an active CMS certification number and appears in the current CMS Dialysis Facility Listing. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-09-30. CMS updates this file several times a year; we re-pull it weekly.
